Two Different Exam Systems. One Important Goal: Demonstrating German Proficiency.

Both ECL and Goethe use CEFR-based levels, but they are not the same examination. Goethe offers German examinations across A1–C2, while ECL currently lists German at A2, B1, B2 and C1.

Which One Should I Take?

The answer depends on what the certificate is needed for. Candidates should check the requirements of the organisation requesting German-language certification.
